The Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences (PPGCIAMB) aims to train highly qualified professionals in Environmental Sciences with an in-depth understanding of educational, natural, management, and production systems. To conduct research on the relationship between nature and society, focusing on educational, natural, management, and production systems, with the goal of intervening and solving environmental problems in the Lower São Francisco River and its estuary, the Southern Coastal Region, and the Agreste of Alagoas.

To generate scientific and technological knowledge that values the sociobiodiversity of marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems, fostering sustainability in the Lower São Francisco region and its estuary, the Southern Coast, and the Agreste of Alagoas.

To identify environmental impacts resulting from extractive activities and productive systems such as fishing, exotic species aquaculture, hydropower plants, mining, agricultural monocultures, and tourism, in order to propose prevention, mitigation, and sociobiodiversity conservation strategies.

To develop management and production processes and methods that integrate nature and society in an interdisciplinary and sustainable manner.
