  • The thesis developed in this research aimed to identify how textual-discursive materialities circulating in university research, extension, and cultural projects present discursive potential in relation to Critical Scientific Literacy in teacher training. Focused on the theme of gender relations and diversity, the submission and implementation of proposals that meet this demand has become recurrent, generating textual-discursive materialities that can be used as motivation for debate and argument generation in activities allocated to the academic textual production discipline. In this regard, the research was based on the identification of Research, Extension, and Cultural projects that addressed the aforementioned issues within the scope of the Federal University of Cariri. The list of textual productions generated from the development of the activities of these actions was identified and analyzed from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) through the refinement of the following analytical categories: Representation of Social Actors, Lexicalization, Metaphors, and Interdiscursivity. In total, nine texts were analyzed, distributed according to the following discursive genres: six scientific articles (Proj1, Proj2, Proj4, Proj6, Proj8, and Proj9); one book chapter (Proj3); one roundtable discussion (Proj7); and one podcast (Proj5). Considering that DCA values the elaboration of the social and cultural context of the social problems present in the analyzed texts, from the perspective of Textually Oriented Discursive Analysis (ADTO), the following analytical contextualizations were identified: Analysis 1 (A1) - Intersectionality between social class, gender, motherhood, and the working class at the university; Analysis 2 (A2) - Intersectionality focusing on issues of racism, LGBTIphobia, and ableism; Analysis 3 (A3) - Gender relations, violence, and women in Science; and finally, Analysis 4 (A4) Sexual Education, Curriculum, and Territoriality. The results point to didactic and pedagogical possibilities for incorporating this theme into higher education textual productions in Natural Sciences programs, focusing on language. Furthermore, teacher training focused on Natural Sciences could lead discussions on this topic within the scope of Science, Technology, Society, and Environment (STSE) education through Socioscientific Issues (SSI). The research's preponderant and innovative indication lies in the availability of these discussions and analyses as potentially valid for academic textual production teaching proposals, supporting pedagogical practices in dialogue with other areas of knowledge. Above all, addressing gender relations and diversity as a contribution to the civic development of critical and engaged individuals, challenging themselves to the commitment to social change regarding oppression, violence, and exclusion in both universities and basic education.

As docentes ressignificaram algumas concepções do fazer pedagógico.

  • Understanding the educational process as continuous and unfinished, this thesis focuses on the in-service teacher education, due to its fundamental role in professional development. For this, the didactic planning based on inquiry-based activities was the guiding line. Inquiry is central in bridging the gap between the science teaching process and the inner characteristics of scientific activity, in which investigation is an essential component. In this sense, this thesis seeks to understand the possibilities and difficulties of Biology teachers in elaborating and implementing didactic plans based on elements of inquiry-based teaching. To this end, participant research was developed with twelve female Biology teachers and one male teacher from the public school system in the interior of Alagoas, working at the secondary level of basic education. The methodological path began with the formation of a study group that sought to follow a collaborative approach to education in/through research, based on a recursive cycle of theoretical-practical analysis. The process included the following stages: i) theoretical-practical experience, ii) theoretical study and analysis, iii) planning, iv) discussion and (re)planning, v) implementation, vi) theoretical-practical analysis. The research uses multiple data sources for empirical triangulation, including field records, audio recordings of discussions and theoretical-practical analysis, didactic plans and interviews. The set of information (still under construction) will be analyzed based on content.

  • This thesis analyzes the implementation of projects in basic education focused on Sustainable Development (SD). The research is based on a larger project, approved by CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT nº 06/2022, entitled "Actions to strengthen Environmental Education in schools," which involved the development of Environmental Education (EE) projects in public elementary schools across different municipalities in the state of Alagoas (AL), in collaboration with Higher Education Institutions (HEI). The research problem for this study was to verify how the analysis, implementation, and execution of projects from the Alagoas Science Fair (FECiAL), from the perspective of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), can contribute to pedagogical practices in basic education, fostering a focus on socio-environmental responsibility through the development of scientific research and interventionist practices. In this context, the research problem is: How can the creation, implementation, and execution of FECiAL projects from an ESD perspective contribute to the pedagogical practices of Basic Education? Therefore, the study's analysis focused on the general objective of analyzing pedagogical practices in relation to the ESD results implemented in research projects developed in basic education schools participating in FECiAL. To achieve this general objective, the research had the following specific objectives: to analyze the pedagogical proposals and products of FECiAL research projects; to present the perceptions of the supervising teachers regarding the relationship between formative experiences and their pedagogical practice in ESD; and to present the perceptions of the student researchers of the projects in relation to socio-environmental training. Thus, the research methodology was qualitative documentary research, based on the analysis of 8 projects and their respective final reports, and semi-structured interviews with 7 supervising teachers and 9 student researchers. The data analysis began with a discussion of the projects, which led to the structuring of a pedagogical mapping with the proposed learning path for the 12-month period covered by the call for proposals. This was followed by the presentation of the respective final reports, describing the activities carried out and highlighting the actions of scientific investigation, intervention practice, integration of the school with the community, and the product as a social and learning outcome. Finally, a Thematic Analysis (TA) was conducted based on discussions of the results presented in the final reports and interviews conducted with the research subjects. Three themes were addressed in the discussions regarding the effects of the pedagogical practices: sustainability practices and actions: socio-environmental impacts and transformation; the pedagogical approach to ESD (Education for Sustainable Development); and the integration of school, university, and community. After analyzing the data, the research presents in its results the development of pedagogical practices aimed at promoting responsibility and socio-environmental transformation, through scientific investigation activities and intervention with the problems of the students' socio-environmental context. Thus, the implementation of collaborative projects highlights the effects on the teaching and learning process, considering the active role of students in scientific training, intervention with a critical, reflective, and ethical perspective towards society. Also noteworthy are the role of teachers as mediators and the strengthening of research in student training; the possibilities of pedagogical practices focused on Sustainable Development in an interdisciplinary and transversal way across the knowledge areas of basic education; and the role of integration between school, community, and university in promoting scientific practices contextualized with the socio-environmental reality of the school. Finally, this research makes it possible to advocate for the development of pedagogical practices from a Sustainable Development Education perspective in Basic Education to promote scientific training and practices in society, in an interdisciplinary, collaborative way, and integrated with the university.

  • This thesis investigates the challenges and potential of non-hegemonic science education in quilombola contexts, focusing on a school located in the municipality of Taquarana/AL, which serves students from the communities of Mameluco, Sítio Novo, Poços do Lunga, and Passagem do Vigário. The broad objective was to analyze the pedagogical practices and discourses of teachers who teach science to quilombola students, in order to understand how these actions articulate the knowledge of the territory with the school curriculum in confronting structural racism and in compliance with the implementation of Law 10.639/03. Grounded in the Afro-American Thought of Lélia Gonzalez and the Pedagogy of Paulo Freire, the research draws on intellectuals who analyze the singularities of Brazilian social formation and racism in its implications for subjectivities and daily school life, such as Nascimento (2021), Gonzalez (2020), and Fanon (2020). In the specific field of Science Education, we engage with the frameworks of Krasilchik (1987) and Marandino (2013), articulating them with the anti-racist education proposed by Pinheiro (2023), Verrangia (2010), and Gomes (2017). The methodological approach was anchored in Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA), conducted through interviews with faculty and the iconographic analysis of material and visual productions from the "Afro Project" developed at the institution. The results reveal the persistence of three critical phenomena: the Pedagogy of Denial, which recognizes Quilombola culture in a seasonal and folkloric way, but silences the political dimension of the Black body; Geographical Epistemicide, which privileges distant references to the detriment of the living ancestry of the immediate territory; and the existence of a Submerged Science, where ancestral knowledge linked to clay handling, botany, and food security is disregarded as legitimate rationalities. The iconographic analysis revealed the fragmentation of knowledge and the folklorization of Africa, highlighting what I call the Neurosis of Influence. It concludes that overcoming these conflicts requires the Quilombo-ization of Science Education, a proposal that reclaims the quilombo territory as a curricular foundation and a laboratory of epistemic pluralism. The thesis defends a Science-Confluence, capable of articulating universal knowledge with quilombo intellectual sovereignty, transforming Science Education into an instrument of historical reparation, identity affirmation, and cognitive justice within the quilombo school setting of Alagoas.

  • The textbook can be considered the most widely used resource in our classrooms, given its guaranteed free distribution throughout the national territory through the National Textbook Program (PNLD), covering the entire Basic Education curriculum – from Early Childhood Education, the Initial and Final Years of Elementary School, and High School. It is precisely because of this broad reach and its relevance to teaching that the textbook has been the subject of numerous studies seeking to verify how this resource is being used in the classroom. Considering that textbooks have undergone profound changes in the way they present and organize their content with the implementation of the New High School curriculum in the country, we believe it is necessary to conduct more studies on this teaching resource. Here, we argue that these studies should also be guided by the framework of Scientific and Technological Literacy (ACT), since the school should aim to prepare students towards developing the capacity for critical understanding of their realities, so that, through the acquired knowledge, they can intervene in them directly or indirectly. Thus, the following research question has been established for this thesis: how can the activities in Natural Sciences textbooks, regarding Biology content – specifically in the field of Ecology – indicated by the PNLD/2021 for the New High School curriculum be related to the process of Scientific and Technological Literacy of students? The general objective of this research is: To analyze the activities in Natural Sciences textbooks, regarding Biology content – specifically in the field of Ecology – indicated by the PNLD/2021 for the New High School curriculum, based on the assumptions of STL, in order to identify their possible relationships with the process of Scientific and Technological Literacy of students. It is a qualitative study, with a bibliographic, documentary, and exploratory character. The methodological aspects of this research were organized into three stages: the first stage encompassing documentary research, organization, and study of official documents such as the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC), and analysis of the Alagoas Curriculum Framework for High School (ReCAL/EM); the second stage with the production of a Systematic Literature Review (RSL) on textbooks; and the third stage with the analysis of selected textbooks, where 3 collections of Natural Sciences and 3 books of integrative projects indicated by the PNLD 2021 were analyzed and selected according to the choices of teachers in the Alagoas state network. For this last analysis, we used the AC indicators proposed by Sasseron (2008) and the ACT indicators and the ACT Analysis Parameters in textbooks developed in this thesis. As a result, we observed that in ReCAL/EM, there are mentions of the terms Scientific Literacy (AC) and Scientific Literacy (LC) throughout its text; however, even with the indication of the importance of developing the SL and/or SL process, the document fails to clarify whether it considers these terms as a single process or as distinct processes. The RSL carried out revealed that many scholars have chosen the theme of textbooks, given the importance of textbooks in the educational process and the need for research in this area to increasingly guide pedagogical work. However, there is a gap in studies relating textbooks to their use in the classroom, the teacher's daily routine, and how pedagogical work takes place. Regarding the analysis of the LD, we observed that the LD of Integrative Projects show potential, in terms of activities, as many of them required critical reflection, participation, engagement, intellectual autonomy, and student protagonism.

  • This study analyzes the institutional dynamics that produce, naturalize, or create tensions around racism in Brazilian and Portuguese higher education, drawing on the concept of whiteness and its intersection with the colonial legacy. The research adopts a comparative, transatlantic perspective, involving participants linked to doctoral programs at universities in Brazil and Portugal. Methodologically, the investigation is grounded in a qualitative approach, anchored in ethnography and situated within the field of the Anthropology of Education. Through the participants' narratives, the study seeks to understand and interpret the commonalities, specificities, and nuances of racial issues, as well as their manifestations in the daily academic life of the contexts under study. The results reveal the persistence of Eurocentric curricular structures, which contribute to the rendering invisible and the delegitimization of historically marginalized epistemologies. Although initiatives and discourses aimed at combating racism were identified, institutional gaps persist that hinder the consolidation of truly anti-racist practices. The analysis also highlights the importance of strengthening the Black presence in higher education, demonstrating that democratizing these spaces requires policies that address not only access but also retention, degree completion, and the continuation of studies at the postgraduate level. These elements are fundamental to promoting racial equity and transforming the institutional structures that sustain racial inequalities—including the privileges historically associated with whiteness and its role in reproducing and naturalizing racial hierarchies within the academic sphere. The data also underscore the importance of democracy as a fundamental condition for fostering critical debates on racism and implementing equity policies in higher education. In this regard, the rise of far-right movements and discourses has placed strain on these processes in both Brazil and Portugal—whether through the delegitimization of science and the weakening of public universities, or through the strengthening of racist and xenophobic rhetoric directed at immigrant populations. Such dynamics demonstrate that addressing these disparities is inseparable from defending democracy, scientific inquiry, and the university as a space for plurality, diversity, and social justice. Finally, the research proposes the concept of "Black intellectual prosperity" as a theoretical contribution to understanding contemporary forms of Black resistance in higher education. This concept articulates the capacity of Black individuals to produce, interpret, and transform scientific knowledge based on their experiences, memories, subjectivities, and visions for the future—all within contexts historically marked by racism and the denial of the legitimacy of their intellectual output. Black intellectual prosperity highlights that knowledge production cannot be reduced to merely technical processes or ones detached from social reality; rather, it must be understood as a field of contestation, recognition, and affirmation regarding multiple forms of existence and epistemological production.

  • This thesis analyzes the implications of the Online Learning Ecosystem (OLE) for the pedagogical practices of science teachers in the final years of elementary education, based on the pillars of Pedagogical Architecture (PA), inquiry, and connective acts. PA is understood as interfaces that intertwine resources and methodological perspectives, integrating them into collaborative space-relations. Inquiry, in turn, unfolds in the inseparable relationship between problem-situations and starting points, establishing a link between concrete learning experiences and theoretical-scientific perspectives. Finally, connective acts refer to the simultaneity and interweaving that emerge from collaborative participation, manifesting in reticular and transorganic coexistence. The analyses are grounded in the emergent categories proposed by Borges et al. (2017), Brown (2021), Carvalho, Nevado, and Menezes (2005), Garrison et al. (2000), Richardson (2002), and Schlemmer (2023). The study examines the axiological and pragmatic dimensions of learning ecologies and ecosystems, and describes the implications of the OLE for the experiences and prior knowledge of the participating teachers. It argues that the epistemological interrelations analyzed enhance pedagogical practices associated with decentralized collaborative space-relations and problem-based activities aligned with current sociotechnical demands. However, the thesis highlights that such possibilities are constrained and face significant barriers due to the predominance of a school culture rooted in a traditional liberal education model, anchored in curricula and utilitarian teaching approaches. This applied social research, qualitative in nature and exploratory in approach, was conducted through a research-training methodology, involving science teachers in two stages. The first stage prioritized the development and establishment of the OLE, engaging with the theoretical and methodological foundations necessary for consolidating its pillars. In the second stage, the implications of the OLE for the participants’ pedagogical practices were analyzed. The trajectory of thematic categories, recording units, and context units, as well as the representations through Sankey diagrams, was structured based on content analysis. Based on the OLE pillars and supported by the theoretical framework, the study identifies that precarious relationships, cultural resistance, and the lack of effective engagement of educational actors as a collective project weaken progressive methodological approaches. Additionally, Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDIC) remain restricted to instrumental use in teaching contexts. On the other hand, findings suggest that when space-relations are collaborative and decentralized, and classroom dynamics are inverted—moving from the concrete to the abstract—, teaching tends to foster more meaningful learning experiences.

  • This research aimed to analyze how the production of videos about the area of plane figures supports the mathematical knowledge of 6th-grade students in elementary education at a public school in the interior of Alagoas. The specific objectives were: to identify the possible contributions of video production to students' holistic development in educational settings; to list how video production contributes to the learning of plane figure areas in a 6th-grade class from the participants’ perspective; to explore the role of video production in the school context, giving meaning to what is being studied and proposing a didactic sequence for video production focused on the study of plane figure areas in the 6th grade of elementary education. The guiding question of this research was: how does the production of videos on plane figure areas support the mathematical knowledge of 6th-grade students in a public school in the interior of Alagoas? This is a qualitative study based on Flick (2009) and Creswell (2010), and of the intervention research type (Galvão & Galvão, 2017), involving 20 students from the 6th grade of elementary education in a public school in Santana do Ipanema–AL. To build our corpus, we used semi-structured interviews, student-created scripts, and digital math videos. For the construction of the analysis tools, we relied on Thematic Analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). Based on the analyses, it was possible to conclude that the students were able to reflect and engage in dialogue about the importance of incorporating video production into educational settings. They highlighted video production as a methodological strategy for learning content, developing student protagonism, overcoming the fear of public speaking, and studying more since they took on the role of teaching the topic through the video. These knowledge-building moments can promote deeper learning and understanding of the content as students created their scripts, exchanged ideas with peers, and produced the videos. The research showed that the production of digital math videos is gaining space in educational settings, as students are increasingly immersed in technological environments that provide opportunities for autonomy, reflection, and protagonism. From a cognitive point of view, the videos helped students better understand concepts such as areas of plane figures by offering a more visual, concrete, and engaging approach. The need to explain, represent, and review the content allowed students to take greater ownership of the knowledge in an in-depth and autonomous way. But the impact went further. In other dimensions, video production created space for emotional and social development. Many students reported overcoming the fear of public speaking, overcoming the shame of their own way of speaking, and beginning to trust themselves more. This is powerful: learning mathematics while strengthening self-esteem and a sense of belonging. The activity also awakened collaboration, empathy, and organizational skills. The groups had to plan together, divide tasks, respect different learning paces, help peers with difficulties, and handle nervousness with ease. These experiences show how deeply learning is connected to an environment of interaction and care. Given this context, new questions arise: How can we ensure that practices like this are valued in planning and assessment? And most importantly, how can we keep students' interest alive, giving them voice, creativity, and protagonism?

aprendizagens duradouras, contextualizadas e significativas. A
marinhos.

desinteressantes.
As limitações

  • The central objective of this doctoral thesis was to investigate
the application of the Potentially Significant Teaching Unit
(PLTU) in science education, with a specific focus on marine
invertebrate zoology. Based on the Theory of Meaningful
Learning proposed by Ausubel and expanded upon by Moreira's
studies, the research began with the observation that traditional
methodologies, those centered on memorization and
fragmentation of knowledge, are insufficient for promoting
lasting, contextualized, and meaningful learning. The research
was structured in three complementary stages. The first
consisted of a systematic review of the literature on the
application of the PLTU in science education, with an emphasis
on theses, dissertations, and articles published in national
databases. The analysis revealed that, although PLTU is widely
used in topics such as ecology, sustainability, and the human
body, there is still a significant gap in its application to zoology
education, especially regarding marine invertebrates. The
second stage involved expert validation of the proposal, using a
combination of assessment instruments, such as a Likert-scale

questionnaire and open-ended questions. Five evaluators,
trained in Biological Sciences and Pedagogy, participated in this
second stage. The PLTU achieved over 90% approval ratings
based on the criteria of clarity, organization, applicability, and
potential for student engagement. The qualitative contributions
provided by the experts were incorporated into the third stage,
which resulted in terminological adjustments and improvements
to the PLTU's supplementary materials. The results showed that
the constructed PLTU had the potential to stimulate more
contextualized and efficient teaching, with great potential for
mobilizing student interest in content traditionally considered
difficult or uninteresting. The thesis contributed to the
advancement of knowledge in science education, proposing a
pedagogical intervention considered innovative, replicable, and
evidence-based. Among the contributions of this research were:
a review of the teaching literature, identifying a methodological
gap in zoology teaching; the proposal of a PLTU, with a didactic
sequence format with potential applicability; and the validation of
this PLTU as a structuring axis of transformative pedagogical
practice, using the Theory of Meaningful Learning. The research
limitations were acknowledged, such as the need to apply the
PLTU in different school contexts, but the data obtained
provided a solid foundation for future research and also for
teacher training. It was concluded that the PLTU marine
invertebrates proved to be a relevant pedagogical tool,
contributing to the strengthening of teaching practices and
    innovation in science education.

  • This thesis analyzes the formative impacts of the Graduate
Program in Science and Mathematics Teaching
(PPGECIM/UFAL) on the construction of professional identity
among its alumni. The study is based on the premise that
teaching knowledge is built through the articulation of academic
training, professional practice, and personal experiences. It
seeks to understand how such knowledge is mobilized during
and after participation in the professional master's program, as
well as to identify future projections and transformations in
teaching practices. The research adopts a qualitative approach,
supported by content analysis of semi-structured interviews
conducted with program graduates. The analysis of the
interviews revealed that the PPGECIM contributed to the
development of a more autonomous, critical, and collaborative
professional identity, characterized by pedagogical authorship
and the expansion of professional engagement. Participants
reported significant transformations in their teaching practices,
with greater intentionality in planning, leadership in peer training,
and participation in collaborative networks. The research also
pointed to challenges, such as the overload of activities during
the program, the need for stronger articulation between theory
and practice, and suggestions for improved post-graduate
support. Despite these aspects, the testimonies show that the
program plays an important role in the appreciation of teaching
as a profession, encouraging commitment to public education
and to more meaningful, inclusive, and emancipatory
pedagogical practices. It is concluded that the PPGECIM
constitutes a formative space that transcends the academic
sphere, promoting the re-signification of teaching and fostering
the desire for ongoing education and knowledge production.

  • This research investigated the application of Didactic Engineering (DE) and the Theory of Didactic Situations (TSD) in the context of learning electricity content, using Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) and Digital Educational Resources (DER) to optimize student learning in the Electricity Laboratory Curriculum Component (CCLE). This research sought to answer the following question: how does DE and the TSD, mediated by DICT and RED, contribute to improving the learning of CCLE content? In this sense, the general objective of this study was to investigate the application of DICT and RED in the learning process of CCLE content, in the context of DE and the assumptions of TSD, using them as a research methodology and technique. In order to guide the work, the following specific objectives were established: to analyze the contributions of DE e a TSD in the context of DICT and RED in the learning process; to investigate student involvement in the development of didactic sequences (DS) within the scope of DE e a TSD; to examine students participation in the experimentation phase of DE and TSD, addressing CCLE content; and to analyze students perceptions of the use of DICT and RED in the CCLE learning process, from the perspective of DE and TSD. The research adopted a mixed methodological approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, enabling a more comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon studied. The qualitative approach delves into the students' experiences and perspectives, while the quantitative approach allows the results to be generalized through statistical analysis. This study was based on DE analysis and techniques, with an emphasis on its experimental nature, both in and out of the classroom. The process includes the design, execution, observation and analysis of learning sessions based on didactic practices and the application of two DS. The data obtained showed that the students' performance had improved. To analyze this data, we used the assumptions of ED and TSD, applied to two first-year classes of the Electrotechnical Technical Course. This approach promoted the protagonism of the classes in the training process, evidenced by the interest and engagement shown in the use of the methodology mediated by technological artifacts. The DE and TSD phases were applied, in addition to the use of pre-tests, posttests and e-activities as assessment tools. The hypotheses were validated using statistical procedures, including calculating the mean, standard deviation and Student's t-test. The results showed that the methodology adopted, based on DE and TSD, contributed significantly to the learning of CCLE content. In addition, there was a high level of integration and active participation of the classes in the phases of formulation, validation and institutionalization of the content, which promoted greater understanding and appropriation of the topics worked on throughout the pedagogical intervention.

Pensar a
Alagoas. Fundamentada em uma abordagem qualitativa, de
    caráter exploratório e interpretativo, a investigação é

As vozes discentes

  • Although technology has always been present in education and
science, we now live in a different technological era: the era of
digital culture. Being a teacher in this context has proven to be
far more complex than previously imagined. Thinking about the
education of Science and Biology teachers to work in a social
context that lacks scientific-digital literacy is a relatively recent
initiative and therefore requires further studies and
investigations. This research investigated how scientific-digital
literacy is present and influences teacher education in
undergraduate Biological Sciences programs offered by public
institutions in the state of Alagoas, Brazil. Based on a
qualitative, exploratory, and interpretative approach, the study
was developed in four stages: a systematic literature review,
documentary analysis of the Pedagogical Course Projects
(PPCs), a case study of the curricular trajectory of the UFAL – A.
    C. Simões Campus program, and interviews with graduating
students. The results revealed that, although the PPCs present
conceptual advances by incorporating scientific-digital literacy
as a formative guideline, its implementation in the lived
curriculum still occurs in a fragmented and occasional manner.
The analyses also indicated that teacher education is marked by
gaps in the integration of scientific, technological, and
pedagogical knowledge, as well as by a lack of transversality
and systematization in practices related to digital culture and the
critical use of technology. Student voices highlight the relevance
of the theme and point to the need for a more coherent,
integrated curriculum, responsive to the challenges of
contemporary teaching. The study concludes with the urgency of
a curricular restructuring that promotes scientific-digital literacy
as a central axis of initial teacher education, contributing to more
critical, innovative, and socially committed pedagogical
    practices.

  • The present thesis has as one of its primary objectives to
provide means and support for a pedagogical practice that
constitutes a genuinely multidisciplinary science education in the
context of high school and/or the early years of higher
education. By choosing as a procedure the adoption of the
method of conceptual connections in combination with the
method of rational didactic reconstructions—both anchored in
the confluence of Art, Science, and Philosophy—epistemological
questions of various kinds are raised, and their repercussions
are discussed across broad domains of thought. As generative
themes for the articulations that resulted in conceptual
connections and rational reconstructions, as well as in their
respective processes of meaning-making and re-signification,
were chosen, respectively, the episode of the measurement of
the Earth's radius by Eratosthenes of Alexandria and the
complex historical process of the formulation of Newton's theory
of universal gravitation. Among the most relevant results that
can be highlighted here, we would choose the following: the
production of four articles with the potential to support
discussion and meaning-making at a multidisciplinary level and
across various educational stages; the nonlinearity and high
complexity of scientific development as a central aspect to be
considered in the teaching process; and the production of
autonomous interpretations and reflections by the subjects of
education. We argue that the present proposal offers broad
potential for the nature of science to be understood as a genuine
manifestation of human culture, as well as for science education
itself to be conceived as an eminently dialogical pedagogical
    practice.

  • Science education in the early years of elementary school plays an important role in the development of active and critical citizens, awakening interest and curiosity in natural phenomena and the environment that surrounds them. Within the broad spectrum of sciences, biological knowledge stands out for its ability to foster essential skills in students, such as observation, questioning, and investigation, due to its specificities. In this sense, we understand that working with biological knowledge from the early years is essential for students to develop scientific knowledge and observation and questioning skills about the world. One of the possibilities for including these characteristics is to adopt the Science Teaching by Inquiry (SCI) approach through Investigative Teaching Sequences (SEI) during classes, placing the student as the main part of the teaching process. In view of this, it becomes essential to understand the particularities of the biological knowledge present in these sequences. Thus, the central problem of this research is: what are the specificities of SEI for the early years of elementary school when they explore biological knowledge? Based on this, we aim to analyze the characteristics of SEI for the Initial Years of Elementary Education that explore biological knowledge and its specificities. To this end, we adopted a qualitative approach research, divided into two stages. In the first stage, a bibliographical research was conducted, in which eight SEI were identified, based on a systematic literature review. At the same time, we conducted a continuing education course for teachers, in which participants produced two SEI focusing on biological knowledge. These sequences were also included in the analysis. During the course meetings, data were collected through logbooks, questionnaires and audiovisual recordings and, later, analyzed using the content analysis technique, according to Bardin. In the first stage of the analysis, we identified how investigative activities are inserted in the SEI. The activities were grouped into four categories: Interaction and Collective Construction of Knowledge, Practical Experience and Observation, Representation and Organization of Knowledge, and Reflection and Evaluation. We identified that the SEI encourage collaboration among students, the use of experimental practices, recording of information, reading, handling of materials, the systematization of acquired knowledge and critical reflection on the work developed. In the second part of the analysis, a detailed investigation of the specificities of the biological knowledge present in the SEI was carried out. The sequences were analyzed according to the characteristics of biology, considering the studies of Mayr (1998). This analysis allowed us to identify how these specificities influence the way biological content is worked, highlighting the importance of adapting pedagogical practices to reflect the dynamics and particularities of biological processes. We believe that SEI have great potential to promote scientific literacy in students. However, the study also identified gaps, such as the scarcity of sequences that discuss biological knowledge, as well as the need for teacher training. Future research can explore ways to expand the production of SEI in biology and evaluate the contributions of these sequences to the development of students' scientific skills over time. This work seeks to contribute to the improvement of pedagogical practices in science teaching, offering support for teacher training and for the organization of sequences that can contribute to the expansion of studies and understanding of the specificities of biological knowledge from the initial years of elementary school.
