SUMMARY:
Introduction: this work consists of an article and three educational products from the research entitled: The Teaching of Communication in Medical Education: a perspective to promote comprehensive care. It is possible to notice that relational skills such as communication and empathy are important tools for medical practice. These strengthen the bond between doctor and patient and promote co-responsibility in care. Empathy enables a more comprehensive look at the other and their experience. Many studies relate the importance of addressing empathic and communication skills during undergraduate teaching, proposing ways to exercise empathy and pointing out possible paths for teaching with a view to developing empathic potential, considered essential to achieve better results in health care. The motivation for this study came from the author's personal, academic and professional experience, who over the years working in public health observed problems related to communication with the patient. The Professional Master's Degree in Health Education was a journey of a lot of learning that provided new discoveries, especially in the universe of research, with the richness of the interdisciplinary perspective, linking to this the great power of education and teaching in health, a fruitful space for construction of good care practices. Objective: the research aimed to analyze the contribution of communication education in the training of medical students at a public university in northeastern Brazil as a promotion in fostering comprehensive care. Method: a focus group was carried out with 06 medical students from the 11th period, data analysis was carried out according to the method proposed by Malheiros. Results: it was shown that the teaching of communication in the medical training of medical students at the public university surveyed is still shallow and underexplored. Despite the efforts of some professors to promote discussions and reflections on the topic, the approach is still fragmented, which hinders the development of communication skills throughout training, as recommended in the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCNs) of the course. graduation in Medicine. The performance of students in communication with the patient is not evaluated during the training course, based on this, the educational products proposed in this TACC intend to contribute as tools for teaching and evaluating the communication skills of the medical student.
