TWISTS OF THE LAW: THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE
Uniform. Insignia. Military police. Topology. Violence.
The present research deals with the relationship between the military police and violent crime. It is noteworthy that the function of the military police is the preservation of public order and ostensible patrolling in uniform. Therefore, if this professional has as main functions the maintenance of law and public order, what makes him get involved with violent crime? Would the uniform be an element that authorizes this passage from law to crime? It is noteworthy that the uniform of the military police has peculiar characteristics that seem to be fundamental to think about this relationship between law and crime, violence and law, military police and violent crime. In addition, this uniform is regulated, standardized and standardizing. In order to answer the questions that are in evidence in this work, a journey through the history of the Military Police in Brazil, its function and its relationship with violence will be carried out. Subsequently, the relationship between the military police and the military institution, as well as the insignia of this organization, will be explored. Finally, an incursion into the relationship of this professional with the law, crime and violence is carried out. Faced with these questions, in this work, non-fiction literature and the Lacanian topological dimension will be used as contributions that can enable reflections and serve as a key to reading the phenomena addressed.
