SUMMARY:

This study explores the effects of physical exercise on arteriovenous fistula (AVF) adaptation in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. To date, six participants (one male and five female) have been enrolled in the strength exercise training program over 12 weeks, with pre- and post-intervention assessments. All participants used the right upper limb as the dominant upper limb, while the AVF was located in the left upper limb. Preliminary results indicate improvements in the static force of manual pressure on the upper limbs, with values to be detailed. Data regarding dialysis adequacy, quality of life, and post-intervention vessel diameter assessment are currently in the process of being analyzed. It is hoped that these findings will contribute to optimizing the treatment of CKD and improving the quality of life of hemodialysis patients.
