SUMMARY:

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that can affect several
target organs, such as the kidneys, skin, central nervous system, and eyes. Or
ophthalmologic involvement can be severe and can also be caused by the
systemic drug treatment used to control Lupus. The
immune-mediated eye disease may be a marker of severity and activity
systemic inflammatory. This research seeks to identify the presence of ocular lesions
caused by Lupus and correlate this finding with clinical characteristics of the
participants such as systemic disease activity, lesions in other target organs,
serum inflammatory markers, measurement of interferon levels and their analysis of
gene expression. It is therefore a cross-sectional, observational and analytical study
carried out with individuals with Lupus aged 18 years or older
Rheumatology Service of the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital
(HUPAA) – Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL). Patients are being
undergoing complete eye examination, coherence tomography examination

in this study population and to evaluate possible correlations between ocular and
the variables studied, identifying new biomarkers for the disease.
