General Functional Status in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients With Respiratory Viral Infections and the Severity of Respiratory Illness
Respiratory disease. Functional status. Paediatrics. Public Hospital. Brazil.
Introduction: Viral respiratory diseases are important causes of hospitalization and
morbidity and mortality, especially among paediatric patients. The scales of
general functionality, such as the Functional Status Scale (FSS), are intended to
monitor the functional level of these patients, allowing the early detection of possible
complications during hospitalization. Objective: To analyze the correlation between the state of
General functionality and severity of respiratory viral infections in patients
hospitalized paediatric patients. Methods: This is an observational, cohort study.
This was a prospective, single-center study conducted in Maceió, Northeast Brazil. The sample was
composed of 301 hospitalized pediatric patients.
