SUMMARY:

One of the first stages of an intervention based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is behavioral assessment. The information obtained through behavioral assessment is the basis for planning an intervention. A vast stream of literature has focused on enabling parents, caregivers, and professionals to conduct preference assessments and apply the discrete trial teaching method to children with ASD. However, there are few studies that have taught the implementation of any behavioral assessment method or instrument. The objective of this study was to produce, validate and apply a video to teach the application of the Inventário Portage Operacionalizado (IPO) to university students studying the Degree in Pedagogy. To this end, two studies were conducted, the first of which consisted of the production and validation of a video to teach the application of the IPO. The video was produced to describe and exemplify 19 steps, identified through a task analysis, as being necessary for a correct and complete application of the IPO. The validation process involved analysis of the video by a group of seven evaluators, three experts, with experience in applying the IPO, and four evaluators who had no experience with applying the IPO. The second study, which is in the planning phase, consists of applying the video to teach Pedagogy students how to apply the IPO through video modeling. In this study, a non-concurrent multiple baseline experimental design will be used between participants. The study will be conducted in three stages: pre-test, teaching through video modeling and post-test. The pre-test stage aims to verify the participants' initial repertoire in relation to the application of the IPO. Three pre-test sessions will be carried out with each participant. In the video modeling teaching stage, a video will be shown to each participant individually to teach the application of the IPO. Conducted identically to the pre-test stage, the post-test stage aims to verify the effects of teaching through video modeling in relation to the application of the IPO. The results of this study contribute to the methodological rigor of research aimed at teaching through video, in the field of ABA and Education. In addition to contributing to the literature on teaching the stages of an intervention from the perspective of ABA and the literature on teacher training, by developing an educational resource to teach future teachers the application of an instrument aimed at identifying skills present and absent in the repertoire for children aged 0 to 6 years old.
