SUMMARY:

This research presented as a thesis the fact that cantoria de Repente, traditionally practiced in Northeast Brazil, is an Afro-descendent manifestation. To do this, it was necessary to analyze the first records about the repentistas and making an interdisciplinary documentary analysis. For this, it was intended to highlight the state of the art in research about the Repent’s appearance in the Northeast. Being the general objective of this research: to analyze documents, through a pan-African and interdisciplinary bias, and then understanding improvised poetry with the sound of instruments, known as Repente, and classified as an oral genre. The specific objectives of this work are: to draw a foundation, based on a historical perspective, about poetic orality in the Iberian Peninsula and African descent in their culture, to examine the presence of oral culture in African descent people in Brazil and their cultural relations with the Repente, define school intervention proposals to comply with law 10.639 / 03. The analysis of the documents required care, since it is a speech that goes through writing and, therefore, through the voice of others. For this, Mikhail Bakhtin's (2003) reflections were pertinent. The analysis made it possible to rescue the presence of africanities in this culture, since there is no scientific research on their eurodescendence, despite this claim being present among folklorists such as Rodrigues de Carvalho (1928), Leonardo Mota (1955) and Câmara Cascudo (1984). The arrival of blacks as the first explorers of the hinterlands of Pernambuco and Paraíba, a region in which the first repentistas were recorded, in addition to the several similarities between this culture and that of the griots states by Hampaté Bâ (2010), the connection with the studied diasporic process by Anjos (2010), make the present thesis that the Repente is Afro-descendent the most probable possibility so far. So, the research can contribute for the black people to know their history and deconstruct the stereotype in which they are seen only as enslaved, something that has been fed through public and private institutions, including schools and school materials. For this reason, we propose two objects of school intervention, one for the continuous training of teachers and the other for working Repente as Afro-Brazilian literature. Besides helping to comply with law 10.639 / 03 it will help to build a non-Eurocentric discourse and a more tolerant and knowledgeable society of its Afro-descendant history.
