SUMMARY:

What do you want to be when you grow up? This question takes us back to childhood memories as the first indications of "thinking about the future". Beyond an innocent question, asked by adults to children, this question brings in its core a linear discourse that it is individually possible to obtain professional success through effort, as the realization of a future project as a path to happiness. It is evident that such a question is problematic in a competitive and excluding society, with unpredictability and tensions in relation to the viability of such a construction. In view of this reflection, this research seeks to understand how high school students in Alagoas construct their reasons to express their future perspectives. To do so, it analyzes the interpretations that young people who finished high school in schools governed by the Alagoas Comprehensive Education Program (PALEI) make of their experiences inside and outside high school, the signs of their biographical learning and knowledge that support their arguments about which paths to follow. In this vein, we sought to answer the following question: are the experiences in the PALEI interpreted as relevant in the construction of the future perspectives of the young people researched? This research has as initial categories: perspective of future, full-time education, relationship with knowledge, biographical learning, and curriculum. This study is part of the Qualitative Research approach, understanding its complexity and varieties (GONZÁLEZ, 2020). Its methodological assumptions are supported on the principles of the logic of Research in Education advocated by Gamboa (2012), which understands research as a process that articulates the various factors that integrate the processes of knowledge production, which includes philosophical, logical, epistemological, theoretical, methodological and technical content. In the first phase of the research, a dialogical and systemic literature review was carried out according to Sheron Walker's (2016) concept for the survey and reading of theses and dissertations, as well as a document analysis that was alluded to the study of public domain documents, since the source was national and state legislations and documents related to educational policies for high school youth. In a second moment, we sought to understand the discourses and practices that govern the PALEI, as a standard to be followed and indications of its effects on the subjectivities of the students. The program works in the education system of the state of Alagoas since 2016, proposing a full-time education, offering classes of the official curricular components and complementary activities through what its mentors called a "differentiated curriculum", being this curriculum composed by elements such as Pedagogical Workshops, Offering Electives, Guided Studies and Integrating Projects. The program also works with the elaboration of the students' Life Project directed by the Class Teacher Advisor (DOT) with the justification that young people need to think about the future in the last stage of Basic Education. Moreover, as a way to meet the present discourse in current educational policies about the active participation of young people, the Youth Clubs were instituted aiming to listen and meet the needs and interests of students. Therefore, we resort to Foucault's conception of governmentality, which is based on the practice of discourses that form subjectivities. The third moment of the research is the study of the narratives of the experience of graduates of a middle school that is governed by the PALEI. Therefore, the documentary research enters into dialogue and is deepened by the methodological and theoretical principles of Delory-Momberger's Biographical Research (2008, 2012, 2016), which focuses on the study of the narratives of experiences, which bring to light their interpretations of the meanings they attribute to the school experience in high school. Such interpretations are the singular constitution of the relationship with others and with the social world. There were many challenges encountered in carrying out the third phase of the research, especially after the Pandemic context that compromised data collection, leading to a reformulation of the methodological strategies. The third phase is still being carried out, and therefore the results are provisional. In this report, it was possible to bring the understanding about the laws regarding High School in Brazil and in the Guidance Document for the Implementation of the Alagoas Comprehensive Education Program (DOPALEI) published in 2019. According to what is stated in the documents, there is a discourse of youth training based on the idea of freedom and autonomy, but its close relationship with neoliberal policies that underlie the individualized and managed society, shows that school practices are based on a Pedagogical Praxis of skills training, and the discourse of youth protagonism is a way to hold the pro
