SUMMARY:

This work aims to identidy and to characterize Brazilian academic research published in science education journals with regard to the main reading strategies and the texts used. Thus, we start with the following question: What the main kind of texts and reading strategies have been employed in  Brazilian Science Education? We used the theoretical frameworks as the basis for the study: Koch (2018), Marcuschi (2008) and Solé (2014). Thus, the specific objectives that guided the work were: to describe the productions selected during the study according to their distribution over time, education levels, with the investigated area, region of the country where the study took place; verify which texts were used in the reading activities described in the productions and map the main reading strategies from the selected productions in science education journals. This study consisted of an excerpt from a bibliographic survey in eighteen journals in the field of science education about reading practices considering the 2010-2019 temporal space. For the characterization of reading strategies, we consider, with adaptations, the work of Solé (2014). From the analysis of the works, it was possible to identify the most frequent reading strategies, they are: questioning about the text (strategies based on solving questions); reading and text production or text reconstruction; synthesis of the main information present in the text; prior knowledge/prediction and text structure and visual representation. The analysis of the productions also showed that, in general, the text genres most used in reading activities were: articles, reviews, as well as texts taken from scientific books or from websites (texts with a journalistic character). However, the textual genres: poems, literary tales, plays, song lyrics were not very explored in reading practices. Thus, it was observed that some strategies were not explored in some areas and at some levels of education according to publications, as well as genres that involve multiplicity of meanings.
