In contemporary times, many scholars indicate as one of the challenges for education the promotion of a holistic training of students, providing them with conditions to face the situations of their daily lives, in this sense, for what we are considering here as a citizen training in the broad sense of the term. Thus, the theoretical and methodological situations concerning the necessary changes for the Science Teaching - CE area have also been questioned and investigated for some time, so that it may be helping in this formative process of the subjects that come to our schools. In this search for change, the approach of this area to the Freirean epistemology has been indicated as a possibility of overcoming the traditionalist, content-based, and encyclopedic teaching that characterizes this area of CE. This indication arises from the characteristics of non-banking teaching - centered on dialogicity, problematization, contextualization, and interdisciplinarity - and liberation proposed by Freire in his works, and which were experienced in his educational practice. This research is based on the panorama of the teaching of Natural Sciences and the connections already established between this field of knowledge and the Freirean referential. It has the following guiding questions: How has the production of knowledge, at a national level, in the area of Teaching Sciences been configured in relation to the Freirean referential and what is the possible meaning of this configuration for the area in relation to future research? What are the potentialities and limitations found by the approach of the Freirean referential to science teaching and scientific literacy, presented by researches developed in the area of science teaching during the last ten years? Thus, this research aims to: Identify and analyze the approach between the Freirean assumptions and science teaching and scientific literacy, in academic productions published in the area, in order to establish a possible configuration of this knowledge production, locating the possibilities and limitations of this approach that are pointed out by the analyzed research. In this sense, we have as theoretical basis the writings of Freire, Delizoicov, Angotti, Auler, Sasseron, Carvalho, Muenchen, Strieder, Marandino, Lorenzetti, among others. This study falls within the mixed-methods research approach, i.e., quali-quantitative (Sánchez Gamboa, 2013) supported by the assumptions of the Systematic Literature Review - RSL (FARIA, 2016, p. 17). As for data analysis and interpretation, these were performed at two levels: the scientometric analysis, already developed; and the documentary analysis through content analysis, which is still in progress. The scientometric data allow us to think that we currently have a network of consolidated researchers who are mainly connected to three research groups: GEPECISC-UFSC; GEATEC-UESC; GEPECID-UFSM. As far as Paulo Freire's works are concerned, 'Pedagogy of the Oppressed' and 'Pedagogy of Autonomy' were the most referenced. We found theoretical and applied research. This second group has an emphasis on works related to teacher training and educational practices carried out in the classroom of basic education. It was possible to observe the presence and relevance of physicists for the maintenance and dissemination of studies in this perspective. The data point to the challenge of bringing basic education teachers closer to research in the role of authors/coauthors of the publications, that is, researchers. The need to expand the social networks of research in the field was also noted, as these can ensure a greater dissemination of knowledge built and consolidated by the collective of researchers who are already a reference for such discussions. We followed this research aware that we still need to revisit our referential, as well as certain that some ideas need to be articulated and grounded.
