SUMMARY:

The research we developed here aims to understand the educational and philosophical potentialities of daydreaming in philosophy practices with children in Early Childhood Education. Daydreaming is a concept developed by the philosopher Gaston Bachelard, in the aesthetic strand of his thought. The philosopher is known for the duality of his thought that allows his commentators to divide his thought into a diurnal (scientific) and a nocturnal (aesthetic) perspective. In this way, the thinker unites reason and imagination as powers of creation, as complementary, even if they are understood as distinct dimensions, which do not get confused. We are especially interested in the poetic approach of his thought, because it is there that the philosopher deals with the concept of reverie. Daydreaming brings with it an infantile potency of inaugurating new practices and valuing the child's imagination, his creative imagination. In an educational system that is often marked by the supremacy of reason and the subordination of other ways of knowledge, daydreaming can contribute to an integral education for children that values the manifestations of their imagination and allows them to inhabit other possible worlds. With this hypothesis, we pose the following problem: what are the possibilities and challenges present in the daydreaming movement for the philosophical practice with children in Early Childhood Education? Beyond a concept, we understand daydreaming as a movement that allows us to go beyond what is already established. We started our text thinking about childhood, not in a linear, historical way, but through literature, bringing to discussion images of literary childhoods in order to, in a dialogue with attentive observers of childhoods, such as Kohan (2011), Noguera (2019), Friedmann (2020), Gobbi (2014), Mata (2014), Leal (2008), seek new meanings and new ways of saying and/or listening to childhoods, including, broadening our understanding for understanding something that is beyond being a child. Next, we listened to the voices and echoes of childhood coming from other researchers, as we undertook a Systematic Literature Review searching in theses and dissertations what they say about childhood and philosophy and about philosophy practices with children. Then, we present Bachelard's thought, with special attention to the poetic side of his thought, investigating the concept of reverie. Next, we present the methodological design of our research, in which we used Grounded Theory, in the perspective of Charmaz (2009), to collect and analyze the data of our investigation. Here we present the results of our empirical research, to be developed with 5-year-old children in Early Childhood Education.
