SUMMARY:

The research deals with day care centers in female penitentiaries in Brazil. It aims to analyze the research carried out on day care centers in female penitentiaries in Brazil and as specific objectives: to discuss female incarceration and motherhood in prisons; understand the functioning of day care centers in women's penitentiaries in Brazil; identify whether the provision of daycare centers in women's penitentiaries is considered a child's right or neglected by the prison system. To achieve these objectives, the State of Knowledge is used as a methodology, combining a detailed bibliographic review, document analysis with a focus on socio-legal aspects and the use of quantitative data from the National Penitentiary Department Information System (SISDEPEN). The research is structured in four sections: the first consists of the introduction of the theme; the second discusses the Brazilian penitentiary system; the third presents the state of knowledge about day care centers in penitentiaries in Brazil. The last session, under development, will bring the results of the research as a whole.
