Evaluation of solid waste management from health services in municipalities in Alagoas during the COVID-19 pandemic

Due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), the generation of infected waste has increased and consequently its disposal has also increased, raising a relevant issue in our country, which is the management of healthcare service waste. Analyzing the environmental and health consequences of inadequate management and current management standards, this paper seeks to evaluate this management of health waste in municipalities in the state of Alagoas. The methodology of the research proposal involves data received and gathered with companies that are directly carrying out the collection and treatment of these hospital wastes derived from COVID-19. Based on these data, environmental indicators will be elaborated and a proposal for evaluation using the Pressure-State-Impact-Response (PEIR) methodology. In this way, suggestions for management improvements can be made, as well as any criticisms that may be necessary, to direct public and private financing and avoid contamination between people and the environment.
