SUMMARY:

In the state of Alagoas, the coastal region is the main attraction for tourists, especially in the summer months, especially in the municipality of Barra de São Miguel, considered one of the busiest tourist cities in the state. Currently, the hydrographic basin of the Niquim River is the main source of water resources to meet the demands of the municipality. The Niquim River is framed in class 2 according to the State Decree No. 3766/78, which frames the rivers of the State of Alagoas, and its waters are intended for urban supply, agricultural and leisure activities, uses that can change its current state presenting nonconformity with its classification. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the spatial-temporal evolution of the use and land cover and its impacts on the qualitative and quantitative aspects of water resources in the Niquim River basin, considering the evolution of the river quality, using primary and secondary data for the characterization of water resources of the Niquim River basin, by means of water quality analyses in each stretch of the river, the uses of water and the mapping of land use and occupation, with the use of images made available by MapBiomas, referring to the mapping of uses and occupations covering the period from 2000 to 2020. It is expected to obtain an overview of the prognosis of land use and occupation and the quality of water resources in the watershed, considering the criteria of seasonality and monitoring frequency. This will contribute to updating the quantitative and qualitative diagnosis of a watershed with an urban area in expansion and tourism development.
