In the context of mitigating climate change and global warming, it is essential to highlight the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the global scenario. A relevant aspect is the accounting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions originating from its activities through the preparation of inventories. Inventories represent the initial step in establishing GHG emissions management programs. This initiative is especially significant in the university context, as it contributes to the students' educational background, encouraging them to seek new solutions capable of preventing and combating global warming, as well as other impacts arising from climate change. Within this context, the objective of this work is to propose the elaboration of a Greenhouse Gases (GHG) inventory of emissions resulting from the activities of the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Campus do Sertão in Delmiro Gouveia, referring to the years 2018, 2020 and 2022. To carry out this study, data on fuel consumption, electricity and waste disposal at the HEI will be collected and analyzed. The methodology used in accounting for emissions will be the literature review, characterization of the study area and the method used to estimate GHG emissions will be indicated by the Brazilian Program GHG Protocol 2023.0.3. Furthermore, it is part of the scope of this work to study and develop an action plan using the SWOT matrix analysis. The expected results are to meet the research objectives, provide a replicable model for other UFAL campuses, with the purpose of contributing to the fight against climate change and promoting sustainable development in the institution.
