SUMMARY:

Residual glycerin, a by-product of the transesterification process of oils and fats for the production of biodiesel, is a substance used as a raw material in the production of a series of products. We can find it in different sectors of the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, tobacco, chemical industries, etc. and in the most varied products: medicines, drinks, moisturizers, soaps, ointments, paints, explosives, among others. Even with its great versatility, the quantity of the byproduct far exceeds the market's absorption capacity. The application of fine chemistry using crude glycerin to produce other compounds with greater added value such as biohydrogen and liquid metabolites (organic acids, ethanol, biopolymers, 1,3-propanediol and others) has been valued, as it will bring so many solutions environmental, by not dumping excess effluent into the environment, and economical by transforming a by-product of lower value into other products of greater commercial value. The present study aims to evaluate the prospection of bioproducts with higher added value using crude glycerin as a substrate through accelerated anaerobic fermentation through the use of inoculum, highlighting pig farming waste as a promising source and, therefore, the association of the substrate with pig farming residue will reduce the costs of culture media.
