Evaluation and diagnosis of a loss reduction plan in supply systems to support water utilities: Case study in the Jaraguá supply sector
Water Resources, Simulation, water distribution, Loss index
Currently, the management of water resources for humanity's various uses has become a highly relevant issue for organisations, which aim to meet demands while reducing the impact on the environment. With population growth and the development of cities and branches of activity, the tendency is for the volumes required to increase significantly, boosting abstractions for public supply. In addition, the high rates of loss resulting from water treatment, operation and distribution processes show that the resource is not being used efficiently. Therefore, controlling losses in water supply systems is one of the most important actions, with a direct impact on the operational efficiency and economic-financial management of a water supply system and which can affect the management of water resources. From 2021, the water distribution system in Maceió was operated by BRK, which continued the work to control and reduce losses in Maceió, which CASAL began in 2009 through a technical co-operation agreement with the São Paulo State Basic Sanitation Company (SABESP). The aim of this work is therefore to evaluate the evolution of the action plan for reducing losses applied to the supply sector in Maceió's seafront region (Jaraguá), following the implementation of the sectorisation works, in order to identify improvements and opportunities to support the concessionaires in making decisions to reduce and maintain loss indicators.
