SUMMARY:

The vast majority of human activities cause numerous impacts on the environment. Undoubtedly, one of the most impacting economic sectors, in terms of environmental impacts, is Civil Construction, since it generates an exorbitant amount of waste. More sustainable alternatives have been sought in this sector, as a way of reducing harmful interference to the environment, among which the recycling of Civil Construction waste for the production of recycled aggregates stands out. However, the use of these residues is a topic that still lacks studies, in the sense of seeking alternatives that aim to understand and absorb the heterogeneity still present in recycled aggregates, considered as the main obstacle to their use for structural purposes. Thus, the main objective of the present study is to analyze the feasibility of using recycled aggregates, ARCO (concrete recycled aggregate) and ARM (mixed recycled aggregate) in the production of concrete for structural purposes. Fresh state performance was evaluated using the slump test. The evaluation of the properties in the hardened state was carried out, using the test of compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and physical indices of concrete, such as water absorption, void index and real specific mass. Concretes were produced with different dosage parameters, especially with regard to the cement/aggregates ratio, with variations in properties both in the fresh state and in the hardened state being observed. In general, it was initially observed that for the mixtures containing 50% of ARCO replacing the natural aggregate (content greater than the 20% foreseen by the norm), it was possible to obtain a compressive strength of 24.38 MPa at 28 days, being classified in this way as structural concrete. For mixtures containing 100% ARCO, it was possible to find a compressive strength value of 18.31MPa at 28 days. Based on the results obtained in concrete with ARCO, mixtures with ARM will be produced, seeking to optimize the cement/aggregates ratio so that they lead to lower cement consumption, in order to contribute even more to sustainability and economy, increasing viability use of these wastes.
