SUMMARY:

The brewery industry has an important role in the brazilian agroindustrial sector with a positive impact in the country economy. In local context, Alagoas has shown a growth in the number of craft brewery and, as a consequence of this expansion, the importance of the study and optimization of beer production waste management grows. These subproducts, characterized by the high content of negative organic load and solids, need appropriate treatment to minimize the negative impact to the ecosystem in which they are inserted. Aiming to offer an alternative to the containment of this impact, the present work investigated the biogas energetic potential generated from the waste of a local craft brewery, analyzing different scenarios characterized by the use of different prime movers to convert gas in energy to be used by the industry. The studied prime movers were gas engines, gas microturbines and gas turbines. To this, the Pilsen and IPA labels produced in the brewery were selected and the malt bagasse and yeast fermented generations during 2020 were measured, showing a daily average of 94,77 kg and 19,98 L, respectively. Based on methanogenic production data, was estimated the biogas production of the unity, resulting in 9,49 m³ de CH4.day-1. To the energetic use, the electric power generated by the biogas was calculated and showed the best performance with the use of gas engines, generating 844,33 kWh/month, being able to supply until 8,10% of the electric energy consumption required by the brewery. In addition, was verified that direct the biogas use to generate thermic energy in the industry boiler could provide a scenario able to supply 42,47% of the total natural gas required in a month by the brewery. So, the study demonstrate that the brewery waste can be used to supply partially its electric energy demand as well as the thermic energy needed to the boiler operation.
