SUMMARY:

In the 20th century, with the discovery of analytical methods and pharmacological tests, the advance of research on natural products occurred, contributing to the identification of active substances in the human body. With the identification of leading compounds, resulting in the development of new drugs, natural products represent an important source of bioactive compounds that can act in therapy due to their abilities to modulate different biochemical processes, being possible to demonstrate numerous activities, such as anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antihypertensive, antitumor, antioxidant, healing, among others. In this context, this study aimed to investigate the biological activities of two species of medicinal plants: Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica, against placental cells, since pregnant women are a very sensitive target for any type of medicinal treatment. Studies of quantification of cell viability were performed with the use of extracts in concentrations of 25, 50, 75 and 100% in HTR cell lines using the MTT assay, AFM analysis of cells with and without treatment, and NMR analyzes of extracts. According to the data obtained, the Moringa extract obtained cell viability in the concentrations of 25% and 50%, being toxic above 50%, while the Neem extract showed no cell viability in any of the concentrations, with the AFM observed morphological changes, an increase in the elasticity of cells triggered by treatment with Moringa that may be associated with the rearrangement of the cytoskeleton, and a decrease in elasticity triggered by treatment with Neem that may be related to a process of cell death and with the spectra of NMR was detected in the Neem extract the presence of the compounds: 2-hydroxyisobutyrate, acetic acid, betaine, citrate, formic acid, glucarate (saccharate), lactate, succinate and dimethyl sulfone, and in the Moringa extract the presence of the compounds: formic acid , fumaric acid, orotic acid, betaine, glycerol and trigonelline.
