SUMMARY:

Aluminum waste is a product from different processes, which can be used economically, through the generation of secondary aluminum or transforming it and adding value to other products. One of its applications can be the production of chemical compounds such as aluminum oxide and chloride, in addition to their combination with other materials. An example of this combination would be with activated carbon, increasing its adsorption efficiency and removal of different contaminants present in water. The objective of this work was to analyze the quality of coal impregnated with different compounds obtained from aluminum, and its potential to be applied in the removal of contaminants from the agro-industrial sector, through physical/chemical parameters. Charcoal was made with Pinus sawdust and characterized according to its chemical composition, in terms of lignin, hemicellulose and holocellulose content. The elemental analysis was carried out both on the biomass and on the original coal, as well as on the substances that would be impregnated. Immediate analyzes were also carried out in order to discover the contents of ash, moisture, volatile material and fixed carbon in the biomass. The variables used in the pyrolysis process such as temperature, heating rate, residence time and gas flow remained constant throughout the study, as this research is not aimed at comparing the yield or quality of the product obtained. After the thermogravimetric analysis of the biomass, it appears that the temperature range chosen to work is the ideal one, as lignin degradation starts to occur at temperatures between 400 and 800 ºC. The determination of the equilibrium point in the loss of biomass mass allowed a better use in the planning of the analyses, since the humidity can interfere in the time and temperature of the process carried out.
