SUMMARY:

This study focuses on the transitions experienced by adolescents and women deprived of their liberty. Regarding human life, several transitions are experienced from birth and in different everyday situations, be it the change of stages such as from childhood to adolescence and adulthood, or changes in locations, status, new beginnings and phases. This study used Afaf Meleis's Theory of Transitions, a theory that points to a broad and critical view of the transitions/changes that individuals experience throughout their lives. To this end, this study aims to answer the following guiding questions: What transitions are experienced by adolescents and women deprived of liberty? What interventions can be implemented in this process? In an attempt to elucidate these issues, the objective of this research is to analyze the transitions experienced by adolescents and women deprived of their liberty. The present study is characterized as qualitative research, which used the methodological framework of Convergent Care Research (PCA). The study was carried out at the Women's Inpatient Unit – UIF. The participants were 7 female teenagers, including a trans woman. Data collection took place from September 2023 to January 2024. Participant Observation and Discussion Groups were used as information production techniques. From the range of information produced, it was possible to identify three categories, namely: Organizational transition: what made me get here?; Developmental transition: experiences under deprivation of liberty; and Situational transition: what do I want when I get my freedom? The results demonstrate that the participants in this research made different types of changes throughout this context. The use of this nursing theory was fundamental to understand different transition processes experienced in order to discuss the complexity of these transitions according to Meleis' construct.
