COVID-19; Nursing Professionals; Disease Uncertainty Theory.
The object of this study is the experience of uncertainty experienced by nursing professionals during the illness process caused by COVID-19. The interest in studying this issue arose from the current context of coping with the Pandemic by a new type of Coronavirus, where we are experiencing worldwide the exposure of nursing professionals in the front line of care, as well as their illness by COVID-19, facing a scenario of uncertainties in the most diverse aspects. The uncertainty of the disease is intrinsically related to the inability to make sense of events that are related to it, in the sense of assigning concrete values, predicting results and building coping strategies. It is possible to highlight that receiving the diagnosis by itself does not alleviate the uncertainties of the person affected by COVID-19. Even with all the scramble of the scientific community in search of the best evidence, there is still a need to master knowledge about the disease, clinical therapy and treatment. Given the above, the study brings the following guiding questions: What are the uncertainties experienced by nursing professionals who got sick from COVID-19 in the state of Alagoas? How do nursing professionals assess the experience of illness? What strategies were used by these professionals to face the uncertainty of the disease? It is in this context that the objective is: To analyze the uncertainties experienced by nursing professionals who got sick from COVID-19. The study is relevant for its scientific contributions, given the gaps in existing knowledge in the literature regarding illness by nursing professionals affected by COVID-19. And it is important for the contribution to the construction of this knowledge, currently absent/insufficient, which, ultimately, aims to improve the health care of the investigated population.
