SUMMARY:

The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the work process of hospitalized surgical patients. New measures were taken with regard to the safety of the surgical blocks and the post-anesthetic recovery room through the institution of new routine protocols with new recommendations. In this way, we sought to identify changes in the work process in the operating room and post-anesthetic recovery room after the emergence of COVID-19. Descriptive research with a quantitative approach, cross-sectional, using the Survey tool. The surveys were carried out online through CVs from the Lattes Platform - CNPq, as well as by professionals registered at SOBECC. The sample totaled 61 nurses nationwide. Data collection took place through a self-administered structured questionnaire, after approval by the ethics committee with CAAE: 58893022.0.0000.5013. Of the total data collected, most are characterized as cis women 50(82%), aged between 30 and 39 years 16(26.2%). With regard to greater ease in correctly following safety protocols, 33(54.1%) stated that they were linked to the provision of sufficient PPE. 15(24.59%) adequate infrastructure, 4(6.56%) availability of training and 9(14.75%) other types of facilities. The patient's recovery location after the surgical procedure, 21(34.43%) answered to occur in the PACU, 36(59.02%) in the CC itself and 4(6.56%) in other places. Regarding the use of N95/PFF2 mask or equivalent with exhalation valve, 34 (55.74%) reported using it. Regarding the disposal of the N95/PFF2 mask after procedures that generate aerosolization, 49 (79.03%) reported that yes. Mentioning the use of the same operating room and the same anesthesia machine for all patients with COVID-19, 31 (50.82%) stated that they used the same room with the same anesthetic device. In this way, the changes that occurred in the institutions, at the national level, within the surgical block during the most critical period of the pandemic were identified and thus, correlated with scientifically published data, in addition to the protocols established by ANVISA, MS and SOBECC.
