SUMMARY:

The object of this study is the knowledge of pregnant women about the signs of the beginning of labor. The objective was to evaluate pregnant women's knowledge about the signs of beginning labor, characterize the pregnant women in the study, and identify pregnant women's knowledge about the signs of beginning labor. This is a descriptive study taking into account the proposed objectives, observing facts, records, carrying out analyses, classifications and interpretations without the researcher's interference. Characterized as an observational study, where there is no direct intervention by the researcher and the groups are classified at the beginning of the study. Finally, it is a study with a quantitative approach. It was observed that the majority of pregnant women were aged between 20 and 29 years (45.35%, n= 78), with an average age of 26.6 years, brown women (70.35%, n=121) , whose family income is up to 1 minimum wage (49.42%, n=85), live with a partner (54.87%, n=93) and have secondary education (29.07%, n=45, 93) at the time of collection. The correlation between the variables studied allowed the identification that there was no statistically significant difference between them, with the tests having a p value above 0.05, except for the age group variable whose analysis of the single table showed statistical significance, with a value of p = 0.0002.The present study evaluated that pregnant women's knowledge about signs of the beginning of labor, concluding through statistical analysis that there is no correlation with most of the variables used, except for adulthood (20-29 years), where it is possible to infer that age influences positively in recognizing the signs of labor and the attitude of going to the maternity ward when faced with them. Despite the non-statistical significance between receiving guidance and recognizing the signs of labor, the descriptive data from this study suggest that pregnant women recognize the signs of labor when they report going to the maternity ward when they feel two or more contractions within a period of 10 minutes, however, these same pregnant women were unable to inform whether they should observe 10 minutes as an appropriate time, nor the number of contractions to be felt during this time. Therefore, when talking about prenatal education about decisive topics that are directly related to positive outcomes in this period, it is necessary to make use not only of different strategies and methodologies for teaching and health education and access to information, but also of tactics for investigating this knowledge, and solidifying this information.
