Child, body, city: looks at children's experience in urban space.

KEY WORDS:
child; urban experience; body

PAGES: 103
BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Arquitetura e Urbanismo
SUMMARY:
This research investigates the relationship between children and the urban space in order to
reflect on the meanings and potentials of their presence in the city. The structure of the pa
per starts from a theoretical approach within the historical, political and urban concepts and
movements that have been shaping the children and city relationship, especially in the Brazi
lian context, and from the experimentation of research devices with children. For that, some
concepts were articulated as the playing-body (ARENHART, 2016) and the cartography as a
research-intervention method (PASSOS, KASTRUP and ESCÓSSIA, 2009). In face of the con
temporary way of life, which the private space is most appreciated than the public and children
find themselves increasingly walled in their homes, schools and leisure centers, the children
presence in the public space manifests a subversive practice to the city model that segregates,
restricts and delimits. Thus, the central argument of the dissertation is based on the idea that
children, through their playful, transgressive and creative ways of experiencing spaces and
life, could indicate a potential for the construction of other ways of inhabiting cities.
