SUMMARY:
In the midst of a heterogeneous society, marked by social inequalities, class conflicts and great structural differences, studying ways to achieve a more just and participatory city becomes essential. And, in this scenario, the teaching of urbanism can play a fundamental role, because, by combining the city and school, the relationship between the territory and the society that inhabits it is discussed, opening the possibility of understanding and effective response to the interests of communities. The school, when seen as a territory of construction of citizenship, opens doors for the transformation of society. The city as written (ROLNIK, 2004), constantly and spontaneously, it educates and teaches through the experience of citizens. the city if transforms into use, discussion and planning. It is in this perspective that Paulo Freire (1991) will say that: “As an educator, the City is also a learner”. In this scenario, the objective of the work seeks to contribute to strengthen citizenship, through the understanding of the unfolding of urbanism teaching, within the scope of public school, for the development of urban awareness, critical view, participation, belonging and the autonomy of young people in the city. For this, it is necessary to go through the following specific objectives: to identify the main authors, who approach the conceptualization and importance of the constant struggle of citizenship, in the city ruled by the dominant classes; study the main theories that deal with the pedagogical relationship between the city and education; identify and compare pedagogical practices for citizen awareness, at the national and International; characterize the São Jorge neighborhood where the State School Dr. Fernandes Lima (EEDFL), place of analysis of the issue, observing the relationship with its surroundings, its physical conditions and the situation socioeconomic status of the school community; and finally, from the analyzed pedagogical practices, to build a appropriate approach to be applied in that context, carrying out an experiment that seeks to develop in students, from a playful methodology, citizen awareness. The methodological procedures will be divided in four phases: study of the theoretical framework, survey and analysis of pedagogical practices, recognition of the surroundings and the school and carrying out the experiment, through participant observation.
