SUMMARY:

The last few decades have witnessed an expansion of the urban fabric, an increase in thepopulation and vehicle fleet in urban centers, raising the levels of noise pollution. This occupies the second place in the ranking as the main cause of diseases, behind only theatmospheric pollution, generating auditory and extra auditory problems.Among the sound sourcesexisting in the urban space, the traffic of motor vehicles is the biggest noise generator and themore noticeable in big cities.Aracaju, capital of the State of Sergipe, despite being theleast populous of the northeastern capitals, around 672,614 inhabitants in 2021 (IBGE), alsoit has problems similar to those of large urban centers.A survey carried out inJuly 2019 pointed to an increase in the number of noise complaints registered between 2013 and2018 in urban noise management and control bodies. This demonstrates the lack of aadequate urban planning that considers population growth, changes andconflicts between land use, road transport and urban noise control.for evaluation andmanagement of environmental noise, sound maps appear, powerful support toolsdecision-making related to territorial planning and ordering. Those onesrepresent, through isophonic curves, the sound pressure levels acting in the spaceurban. In this context, this dissertation aims to map the sound environment of the neighborhoodCenter, in the city of Aracaju-SE, and analyze the exposure of the population to traffic noiseroad. Therefore, acoustic measurements will be carried out in different ways according toits morphological classification determined by the Municipal Master Plan (ARACAJU, 2000),collected data referring to the flow of vehicles and elaborated sound maps throughcomputational simulations in CadnaA software.Demographic data will be specialized in theresidential areas for analysis of population exposure to noise and obtaining the percentageof people exposed to high noise levels, as regulated by WHO and NBR 10.151(ABNT, 2019).After calibrating the simulation according to the sound measurements, the background noisetraffic present in the study area will be evaluated and interventions may be carried out tomitigate the excess noise identified in hypothetical scenarios. The importance of this studypart of the assumption of improving the quality of life, in addition to demonstrating the usefulness andneed for an acoustic map in urban planning, a fact that is still uncommon in Brazildue to the lack of national and municipal laws and technical standards that make it mandatory.
