SUMMARY:

This work aims to analyze the houses designed by the architectZélia de Melo Maia Nobre in the decades of her work in the city ofMaceió – since her arrival in the mid-1950s.Zélia Maia Nobre is from Pernambuco, graduated from the School of Fine Arts inPernambuco - EBAP in 1954, being the only woman in the class.she arrived atMaceió-AL, city where she settled, still in the mid-1950s,starting his career from then on.According to the architect1, In this ocasionfrom the beginning of his performance, there was a difficulty in actingprofessionally, due to their gender condition, and due to theexistence of a scenario, culturally more conservative than the oneexperienced in Recife, as the job marketmaceioense was still dominated by male engineers and designers,at that time.This difficulty was overcome, thanks to experience previouslyaccumulated when he was formed and started working in Recife, somethingwhich also contributed to the professional forming a network ofcontacts, which allowed her to occupy, gradually, important positionsin the field of civil construction in Alagoas.Corroborating with the latterinformation, Silva (1991) alleges that it was the insertion of the architect with themost influential classes in Maceio society that facilitated its effectiveperformance and the dissemination of its architecture, strengthened by the backgroundmodern style brought from Recife, especially in residential projects.
