SUMMARY:

Telling the city's history is also telling the story from the people. They are the ones who create, dream, modify, relate to and compose the landscape in the incessant performance of inhabiting, either through matter or through memory. It is through this discourse that this dissertation investigates part of the urban history of Teresina, capital of Piauí, more specifically the trajectory of the conformation of its modern landscape, starting from the architects who performed the city through clubs, residences, public buildings, commercial points, churches, schools and even stadiums, highlighting the importance of evidencing both the authors and their works. Thus, based on the study of this set, it is clear that, for the most part, the Modern Architecture of Teresina (AMT) still resists in the main avenues and neighborhoods of the city, both with their particular and joint characteristics, designed by local and foreign architects who presented a common effort: the progressive ideal cultivated by modernity and so widespread across the globe in the twentieth century. Names such as Antonio Luiz Dutra de Araújo (1935) and Miguel Dib Caddah (1936) are part of this repertoire of professionals who contributed in various ways to the urban scene of Teresina and, therefore, left their legacy in the contexture of the city, therefore, it is in view of this narrative that I turned to orality as a legitimate source of research and investigated the discourse of these two architects through conversations, listening to the stories about the experience of the city through the filter of their perspectives. In addition, through fieldwork, I (re)discovered the works of both the aforementioned authors and others who have works sewn into the local urban fabric, using the photography and research diary produced by me, in loco, as tools elements that helped the process of appropriating this architecture, recording and reporting the impressions that the AMT carries and transmits, as a way of collaborating to activate the built memory and its architects and, with that, contribute to the history of the city and architecture locations.
