SUMMARY:

For long periods in history, some civilizations used the door as the only opening in their buildings. In addition to necessarily functioning as a passageway, it was through it that many of the interior spaces of the buildings were illuminated. In the course of the evolution of the history of architecture, this function of illuminating spaces was assumed by patios and atriums and, later, by the window, which today emerges as the main architectural device used in studies that evaluate the performance of natural light in interior environments. . Although the focus is on windows, the principles used in these
studies can be applied to the entrance door, which can also function as a “source” of natural light for internal spaces. In this sense, the general objective of this dissertation is to
evaluate how the front door interferes with the luminous performance of a residential environment in the city of Maceió, based on the hypothesis that this architectural element
contributes significantly to the provision of natural light inside environments,
providing good light comfort conditions to its users. as goals
the work proposes the evaluation of the influence of external elements, of the different
configurations of width, location and opening of the door, and of the glazing elements of the
entrance door in the natural lighting of the internal environment. The study was designed to
a hypothetical environment, using the computational simulation method. To the
processing, the TropLux software was used, which generated data that enabled the analysis
comparison of the influence of a set of variables on the availability of daylight in the
inside the proposed environment. The study parameters were defined according to the
specific research objectives and divided into three distinct groups. The partial results
demonstrate that, like the window, the entrance door can also contribute to the
luminous performance of residential environments. External elements such as eaves and
Obstructive buildings can attenuate illuminance levels, contributing to a
better distribution of natural light in the internal environment and avoiding situations of potential
light discomfort from direct sunlight. Variations in
some of the door characteristics such as width, position and opening angle as well
revealed the importance of this multifunctional piece in the design of spaces. Until now
present, the simulations referring to the evaluation of the influence of the elements are pending
door glazing in the luminous performance of the proposed environment, a step to be taken
after the qualification, as well as the analysis and conclusion of the obtained results.
