SUMMARY:

The classification system of Local Climate Zones (LCZs) is based especially on the typology of buildings and land cover.This method has become an important tool for characterizing and planning appropriate recommendations for the climate contexts in question, since it aims to eliminate contradictions observed in the conceptualization of urban, suburban and rural areas, in urban climate studies carried out in different countries.However, the application of this classification method is recent and still incipient in works on urban climate carried out in Brazil.Therefore, the general objective of this work was to analyze the influence of urban morphology characterized by different LCZs on thermal behavior, in a microclimatic approach scale, in the city of Maceió-AL.The methodological procedures consisted of three steps: (1) literature review on the application of the LCZ classification method in urban climate surveys in Brazil and abroad;(2) identification and characterization of existing forms of urban occupation in Maceió based on the LCZ classification method;and (3) conducting a microclimate monitoring campaign at 11 sampling points with different land use characteristics representing different LCZs in Maceió.As a result, seven types of LCZs and one of subclassification were identified in the chosen points in the city, being perceived only two types of land cover typology among the points.Monitoring campaign reviews are ongoing.
