SUMMARY:

This work arose from our experiences as a PIBIC fellow of the Corpus de Libras Project, at UFAL, where we worked with the transcription of linguistic data using the ELAN software. In our research, we propose a semantic analysis of Phraseological Units signaled in Corpus Libras, mainly of Idioms in Libras. Idioms are words or signs of a language, whose translation into another language cannot be done objectively, because they are part of the culture of a speaking community. Some authors, such as Faraco (2005), claim that it is in the lexicon that a stronger relationship between language and culture is perceived. In signed languages, signs constitute the lexicon, structured from the five phonological parameters of the sign, CM, PA, L, M and MNM. This work, in progress, aims to describe Idioms of Libras. We use three narratives taken from the Corpus de Libras in Maceió region, produced by Surdos. After observing the narratives produced by the participants, we realized that there is not always a correlation between the definition of a sign and its meaning in language use. Thus, as it is an unprecedented research and also because of its importance for studies in Linguistics and on the teaching of Libras, we seek to answer two questions: how are Idioms structured in Libras? And what is the role of Idioms in the production of lexicon in Libras?
