SUMMARY:

In this research, we present a study on the writing of Portuguese as second language by deaf Brazilians, users of Libras, with the main objective of analyzing how the grammatical gender nominal agreement is marked in written productions, considering that Portuguese and Libras present different mechanisms from agreement. In order to do so, we investigated whether and how morphosyntactic characteristics of Libras have influenced the writing of Portuguese as second language, and whether there is a pattern in the marking of nominal gender agreement in the analyzed data, given that these are languages with different syntactic modalities and properties. We present two guiding hypotheses for the study: (a) the marking of nominal agreement, in productions written in Portuguese, by deaf Brazilians, users of Libras, presents an instability, sometimes manifesting the pattern found in Portuguese, sometimes deviating from this pattern, presenting an instability. agreement that we will call default; (b) the greater the schooling of the deaf in Portuguese, the smaller the occurrence of occurrences that are in disagreement with the formal standard of that language. We used as a support for data analysis studies carried out by researchers such as Luchesi (2009 and 2012) and Sedrins and Silva (2012) who analyze occurrences of nominal agreement of number and gender in varieties of Portuguese spoken in African countries and Brazilian quilombola communities. The partial results show that Portuguese written as second language by the deaf seems to be directly influenced by the Libras structure, which is a language that does not have the obligation to mark the gender of nouns
