SUMMARY:

The present research seeks to trace the sociolinguistic profile of the speakers of the quilombola community Serra das Viúvas/Água Branca-AL in relation to the variation of portuguese “tu”, “você” and “cê” in the subject position, with the intention of verifying if the quilombolas alternate the position of the pronoun of second person singular. This study also aims to observe if there is interference of social and linguistic factors in the variation; verify if the relationship between the interlocutors influences the linguistic choice; and to identify the way in which the Quilombolas of Serra das Viúvas evaluate the application of the variants “tu”, “você” and “cê”. For the development of this research, we used the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the Theory of Linguistic Variation and Change (LABOV, 2008[1972]), which deals with the variable uses of language and works with the concept of heterogeneous language, based on the assumption that the language is not static, but variable, influenced by linguistic and social factors. We also resorted to the Theory of Power and Solidarity (BROWN; GILMAN 1960[2003]), which deals with the use of treatment pronouns that show two existing characteristics in societies, power and solidarity, being the form of treatment used by the speaker is determined by the existing relationship between the interlocutors in a given communicative situation. Thus, after delimiting the dependent variable “tu”, “você” and “cê”, we delimited the independent variables for research, to know; age group, sex/gender, pronominal parallelism, verbal agreement, determination of the referent and type of relationship between speakers. For data analysis, we assumed that the variant “você” is more recurrent in the speech of the community under study. As this work is in progress, after delimiting the dependent and independent variables, we will analyze and code all sentences that include the application of second person singular pronouns. For the statistical treatment of the data, we will use the statistical software R, to verify which of the forms is used more frequently in the Quilombola community Serra das Viúvas and which are the possible conditioners of the alternation between “tu”, “você” and “cê”.
