SUMMARY:

Oral language has been evidenced in the students' written productions, through different varieties of the standard taught in Portuguese Language classes. These changes commonly come from the relationship and dynamism existing between language - spoken and written - and social practices. Therefore, this research proposes to analyze and discuss, based on the assumptions of sociolinguistics, the existence of Topic Constructions presented as realizations in oral and written texts by Basic Education students in public schools in Maceió. From this consideration, we seek to understand the topic in textual productions found in regular activities in the school environment; in addition to verifying whether or not there is influence of orality in the standard language; as well as establishing the relationship between these linguistic constructions and their permanence over the course of several school years of the students, and, with this, contributing to the demystification of a homogeneous language teaching by considering the understanding of the possible variations applied in each context of production , collaborating for a consistent study, through the maturation of the students' linguistic skills, through different experiences at school. This work takes as theoretical and methodological support the Theory of Variationist Sociolinguistics (cf. LABOV, 2008 [1972]) and theoretical support of Educational Sociolinguistics (cf. BORTONI-RICARDO, 2004); its basis is centered on studies of topic ideas pointed out by Li & Thompson (1976) and discussed by Pontes (1987) who addresses and classifies these constructions. The methodology applied for the development of this study starts from an investigation through laboratory experiences of written and oral textual productions, in which the research collaborators were students of the 9th year of Elementary School and the 3rd year of High School, of the sex/gender male and female, all students from two public schools and residing in the city of Maceió. The result of the research indicates that Elementary School students from School 1 present a greater amount of Topic construction in relation to texts produced by High School students from School 2; in relation to the sex/gender variable, the female manifests a smaller amount of the phenomenon, but in greater variety than the male. There are indications that the higher the level of education, the less use of topics will be, as there are fewer records of these constructions in the productions of High School collaborators. Therefore, it is clear that the study of this phenomenon is relevant, because in addition to reflecting the linguistic diversity of Brazilian Portuguese, it can be observed that in the institutional environments analyzed, the presence of topics in the texts of collaborators points to a language with prominence of topic and subject , in which there are two different constructions, which makes it possible for students to study one more instrument regarding the conscious use of the language.
