SUMMARY:

This research discusses the implementation of language policies for sign language writing in Brazil, considering that there is no legislation that regulates sign writing for Libras. In addition, it is intended to verify with Libras teachers the possibility of adopting a single sign writing system for Libras, since there are four proposals for sign writing systems in Brazil: SignWriting (SW), Sign Language Writing System (ELiS), Sign Language Writing System (SEL) and Sign Language Writing System (VisoGrafia). The general objective of the research is to problematize the implementation of language policies in relation to sign language writing in Brazil. The specific objectives are the following: a) Investigate the use and dissemination of the sign language writing system in the academic field, from the point of view of sign writing teachers. b) Discuss the formalization and standardization of a writing system and its implications in the different contexts of Libras writing. c) Present a proposal for a document for the implementation of a language policy regarding the writing of signs in Brazil. The research questions are these: 1) What is the teachers' perception of the need to formalize a writing system? 2) How are language policies on sign writing presented in official documents and linguistic research? 3) How are sign writing systems widespread in Brazil? This research is a case study that analyzes the perspective of professors from universities in the five regions of Brazil. Professors from UFAM, UFSC, UFAL, UFMG and UFG will be interviewed. Bibliographical and documentary research will also be adopted, since it is related to the objective of this research. The PPCs and the menus of Literature courses: Libras will be analyzed.
