SUMMARY:

Speech is an individual act (SAUSSURE, 2006) that takes place at the moment of production (RASO, 2013). Speech production involves the interaction of the central and peripheral nervous system and sensory receptors that interpret physiological signals (BEHLAU; AZEVEDO; MADAZIO, 2013), which can be measured using electroencephalography (EEG) and surface electromyography (EMG) (DENBY et al., 2010). In such a context, the objective of this research is to correlate the EMG signals of the face muscles related to speech production and the EEG signals related to the events studied in the production of internal speech, thus contributing to assistive technology systems and artificial intelligence. . This is an experimental, descriptive and analytical study. For its implementation, 20 participants between 20 and 35 years of age, of both sexes, will be invited, by signing the Free and Informed Consent Term (TCLE). Adult volunteers who are native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese and right-handed, belonging to the Federal University of Alagoas will be included. Participants who present obvious or self-declared signs/symptoms of communication disorders, neurological and/or cognitive alterations that may interfere with the results will be excluded. Participants eligible to participate in the research will be invited to attend the Research Laboratory of Language, Brain and Human Behavior - LAPELC² (Faculty of Letters, Federal University of Alagoas) in order to collect the data. Volunteers will be interviewed and then participate in the experiment with EMG and EEG. The collected data will be treated using Descriptive and Analytical Statistics, with the R software (R CORE TEAM, 2018), with the results being significant if p ≤ 0.05.
