SUMMARY:

Introduction: Integrative and Complementary Practices can be seen as an important health care strategy, especially because they consider the person in their entirety, differentiating themselves from the biomedical model. The World Health Organization encourages and strengthens the insertion, recognition and regulation of these practices, products and practitioners in national health systems. In this regard, it updated its guidelines from the document "WHO Strategy on Traditional Medicines for 2014-2023". Objective: To evaluate the applicability of extensive use among second-year residents of a university hospital in Alagoas. Method: This is an exploratory-descriptive study with a qualitative approach carried out in 2021, in a university hospital, which used the interview as a data collection technique. The content analysis was performed considering Malheiros. Results: The categories found were: knowledge in relation to practices among residents; experiences of practices among health residents at the university hospital and the application of practices in said university hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital studied offers some Integrative and Complementary Practices, such as acupuncture, auriculotherapy, meditation, massage therapy, cupping and therapy floral in the outpatient clinic, despite not being addressed in the residency programs in health as a mandatory content, some subjects and scenarios of action of the residents made possible a practical experience. Conclusion: The study contributed in the scope of professional practice, through the dialogue about the practices, seeking to stimulate the search for more knowledge and the implementation of the same in teaching residencies in health and, consequently, in the assistance to the user of health services.
