BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Enfermagem
SUMMARY:

General Objective: To investigate the relationship between sustainability behavior and sustainability
waste management in health services (GRSS), together with medical students of
a Public Higher Education Institution of Alagoas, seeking subsidies for the
curriculum improvement. Methodology: This is a case study of character
exploratory, of the descriptive-analytical type, with a quantitative approach. The sample was
consisting of 93 medical students. Inclusion Criteria: being enrolled in the course
of Medicine of the researched institution. Exclusion Criteria: student transferred from others
HEIs and student away from academic activities. Instruments: questionnaire, type
attitudinal or Likert, validated, entitled "The Behavior for Sustainability" (AFONSO
et al., 2016). The instrument was built based on the theoretical constructs about the
sustainability, through three dimensions, namely: Environmental Awareness, Behavior
Pro-Environmental and Quality Waste Management. The scale evaluates six items for each
dimension, totaling 18 items. Data Collection: the questionnaire and the ICF were inserted in the
Google Forms and sent by institutional email to students
Drawn. Data Analysis: The data, initially, were grouped in a spreadsheet of the
Microsoft Office Excel. Subsequently, the variables were organized into tables. Towards
data description, the following measures were used: absolute frequency (n), relative frequency in
percentage (%), mean, standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV), alpha coefficient of
Cronbach, Pearson's correlation coefficient (r). Results: The level of consciousness
environmental has a positive influence on pro-environmental behavior and the quality of GRSS.
Pro-environmental behavior exerts a positive influence on the quality of management of
waste from health services. Fifth-graders have a higher positive attitude
(statistically significant) for sustainability than the others, including the sixth year. No
there is a statistically significant difference in sustainability behavior between
female and male students. The perception for the quality of the management of
RSS of students, of all years, requires curriculum improvement. For bigger
deepening suggests qualitative research on learning opportunities
Existing. The institution's documents show a fragile or superficial concern for
materialize sustainability and RSS in the daily life of the student. Conclusion: Students
present in the dimensions of environmental awareness and positive pro-environmental behavior
and in a comfort zone. But in the quality dimension of RSS management, the
worrisome behavior in an alert zone, in need of improvement.
