ESTIMATION AND VALIDATION OF SOLAR RADIATION USING THE WRF-SOLAR MODEL, FOR THE MAPPING OF SOLARIMETRIC AND PHOTOVOLTAIC POTENTIAL IN THE STATE OF ALAGOAS
Renewable Energy, Solar Irradiation, Solar Energy
Due to the increase in energy demand in Brazil and in the world together with the possibility of reducing the supply of conventional fuels, the eastern region of the Northeast of Brazil has been pointed out as being one of the most promising, mainly due to the high rates of solar irradiation. In this sense, studies aimed at the knowledge of the regional availability and temporal variability of solar irradiation are of great importance to assist in the implementation of solar parks, where the spatial distribution of solar irradiation in large territorial extensions can be achieved with the use of numerical weather forecasting models. The main model of this type, WRF-Solar (Weather Research and Forecasting Model), has been the subject of studies and optimizations with the aim of providing an improved numerical tool for research and specific needs of the solar energy sector. Thus, the main objective of this work is to evaluate the areas with potential for solar energy generation in the state of Alagoas, using the WRF-Solar model. The simulations were performed only for five days in January 2023, with a spatial resolution of 5 km, due to the availability of observational data for model validation. The results obtained by the model were evaluated by means of statistical analysis based on data from INMET surface stations in the region. The WRF-Solar model showed good ability to simulate the hourly behavior of solar irradiation in Alagoas considering the period analyzed.
