SUMMARY:

The relationship between the radar reflectivity factor (Z) and the precipitation rate (R), which is called the ZR ratio (Z = ARb), is important for converting Z from the weather radar to R because a weather radar does not measure the amount of rain directly. Several studies have shown that a single Z-R relationship such as the classic Z = 200R1.6 (Marshall-Palmer) for converting reflectivity to precipitation rate may not be the most efficient, as it will underestimate or overestimate the precipitation rate. This happens mainly due to the governing nature of the types of precipitation that predominate in a region, since the best conversion rate must take into account the typical distribution, size and speed of falling drops that are the result of the precipitating system. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the use of different forms of precipitation estimates of the meteorological radar of Maceió / AL (CAPPI, PPI, and double polarization products) in the area of the Mundaú river basin by means of performance metrics, considering different relationships Local ZR for azimuth sweeping products in a basin with a semi-arid tropical climate that presents frequent flood events.
