SUMMARY:

The study aimed to evaluate the environmental impact of COVID-19 on existing neglected diseases in the State of Alagoas. Data on neglected diseases (dengue, tuberculosis, leishmaniasis and leprosy) and COVID-19 were obtained from the DATASUS system from March 2020 to January 2023. Both sets of data were submitted to statistical techniques, maps being made via the Spline method using the Quantum GIS software (QGIS) version 3.16. COVID-19 data were correlated with TerraClimate climate data to investigate the influence of climate on the dynamics of the pandemic in the state. The results obtained from the applied statistics pointed out that the largest cases of COVID-19 were in East Alagoas, with emphasis on the most populous municipalities and those close to the coast. In Agreste (Arapiraca and Palmeira dos Índios) and Sertão (Santana do Ipanema and Delmiro Gouveia) they

stood out. In the maximum cases of COVID-19, the highest spatial concentration was in Maceió (East), in Arapiraca (Agreste) and Delmiro Gouveia (Sertão). In the evaluation of the waves (1st, 2nd and 3rd) of COVID-19 by climatic mesoregions, the municipalities with the highest cases and deaths of COVID-19 were in Leste Alagoano, Arapiraca and Palmeira dos Índios (Agreste) and Delmiro Gouveia and Santana do Ipanema (Sertão). The impact of COVID-19 on neglected diseases showed that the scenarios before and during there was an increase in tuberculosis in Penedo (East) and dengue in Delmiro Gouveia (Sertão). Emphasis on the decrease in cases of these neglected diseases in some municipalities, regardless of the scenarios. The correlation matrix showed correlations between the Total COVID-19 and the sociodemographic variables were positive and with high correlation (r >0.90), the exception being the Gini Index (r = 0.61). Correlations between Total COVID-19 by mesoregion and sociodemographic variables were positive, except for the Gini index (r = 0.47). The correlation between COVID-19 cases in the 1st wave and precipitation (r = -0.7), humidity (r = -0.63) and temperature (r = -0.57) were negative, except for atmospheric pressure (r = 0.64). The correlation between COVID-19 cases in the 2nd wave, again atmospheric pressure was positive (r = 0.84). In short, COVID-19 impacted Alagoas and post-pandemic actions are necessary to protect the population.
