SUMMARY:

The use of psychoactive substances is considered a health problem worldwide, among these substances is alcohol. Harmful use can cause several short- and long-term health damage, including liver cirrhosis, steatosis, some types of cancer, among other problems. In addition, studies point to a relationship between alcohol use and mental health disorders. From the gender point of view, the use of alcohol by women is linked to social factors and stigmatization. Several neurotransmitters and their respective pathways are involved in the effects caused by alcohol in the body, such as: serotonergic, gabaergic and glutamatergic. In this sense, it is emphasized that polymorphisms may be involved in the susceptibility or protection of alcohol use. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the sociodemographic, mental health and genetic characteristics of polymorphisms in the IL-10 (-819 C>T), TNFA -308G>A and 5-HTT (rs2020933) genes in women using alcohol. This was a cross-sectional study with women who used alcohol. The identification of the genotypes of the genes: TNF-A (-308 G>A), IL-10(-819 C>T) AND 5-HTT (rs2020933 A>T) was determined by polymerase chain reaction in time. real (qPCR). For statistical analysis, the IBM SPSS software version 22.0 was used. P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. The study consisted of a total of 33 individuals, 12 belonging to the case group, women who used alcohol, and 22 to the control group (women who did not use alcohol). No statistically significant values were found for the TNFA -308G>A and 5-HTT (rs2020933) polymorphisms, while for the IL-10 (-819) polymorphism, the T allele was associated with reduced risk for alcohol consumption.
