Student Occupations, Youth, Political Participation. Social Movements
This dissertation aims to understand the phenomenon of school occupations that occurred in 2016 in the state of Alagoas, specifically focusing on the cases of occupation of IFAL (Federal Institute of Alagoas). The research focuses on understanding the unfolding of the student mobilization process leading to the occupations until the aftermath of the evacuation, highlighting the consequences of the occupation for the school routine and the political formation of the participating youth. Through semi-structured interviews with students and analysis of social networks, I used the methodological strategy of analyzing the concept of experience and the category of memory. From these, I reconstructed chronologically the process of student mobilization, as well as the agendas raised by the movements at the beginning of the process and the agendas that are incorporated throughout the occupation. Also addressed was the relationship of students with teachers and administrators, how students structured the occupation, and the decision-making instances regarding the organization of activities and actions. Additionally, the creation of solidarity networks and the exchange of information among students from various occupations in Alagoas and with other sectors of society were analyzed.
