PAGES: 48
BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: Sociologia
SUMMARY:

The present research intends to understand what would lead a social agent not graduated in Social Sciences to make textbooks of school sociology, namely: “Principles of Sociology: a small introduction to the study of General Sociology”, from 1935 and “ Educational Sociology: Introduction to the Study of Educational Phenomena and their Relations with Other Social Phenomena”, from 1940. An analysis considers three “interdependent dimensions”: the social structure; social dispositions; and the available textbooks. Consider that the preparation of manuals is the result of the disposition incorporated in their professional socializing experiences within the social fields they were immersed in, as well as the political and economic context favorable to such publications. Understanding a social structure and the disputed symbolic capitals provide us with elements to unveil how an author-sociologist was produced without having graduated in Social Sciences or Sociology. The investigation intends to examine how works from the technique of analysis of categories and enunciation, which will be carried out as conceived by Bardin (2006). Searching to intertwine the contents of the Sociology Compendiums with the practices of the aforementioned author, the places he was inserted, the relationships they maintain to understand social incorporations, we will carry out our study from the theoretical-methodological perspectives based on Pierre Bourdieu, approaching a Dispositionalist sociology. To understand the habitus that led Fernando de Azevedo to produce Sociology works, it seems to us to be a sine qua non condition to identify and understand his position in the educational and political field. Therefore, we will appropriate other biographical works about this author (NASCIMENTO, 2012; VIESTEL, 2013) and collect additional information about his trajectory from systematic searches in the National Digital Hemeroteca. The time frame of our investigation is the period from 1934, a year before the publication of “Principles of Sociology”, to 1940, the year of the publication of “Educational Sociology”. Our hypothesis is that the logic of the educational field, which Fernando de Azevedo was inserted, will enable us to understand its dispositions and its practical sense, more specifically the production of Sociology textbooks; which corroborates the understanding of the history of Brazilian sociology, and, in particular, of school sociology, since many of its actions and works were relevant to the process of institutionalization of the discipline in the first half of the 20th century (NASCIMENTO, 2012)
