SUMMARY:

This research discusses the political trajectory of Maninha Xukuru Kariri in the indigenous movement. His insertion in this movement began in Recife with the defense of differentiated and quality health for indigenous peoples, even in a period where he sought to succeed in life through academic training. However, by seeking to succeed on earth, she achieved notoriety in a period in which few indigenous women achieved such feats. She was the only woman to form the main committee of the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo (APOINME), through the organization she contributed to the ethnic recognition, recovery and political articulation of the peoples that comprise the organization. He was responsible for retaking Mata da Cafurna, the sacred territory of his people. From this point onwards, he became the main target of the invading farmers in the region. Even with the imminent danger, he resisted and did not abandon his people. Therefore, he became an indigenous leader in a national context when he joined the Council for the Articulation of Peoples and Indigenous Organization of Brazil (CAPOIB), and through it, he developed strategies in European countries against decree 1775/96 promulgated during Fernando's government. Henrique Cardoso, in 1996. In the 2000s he participated in national mobilizations against the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the “discovery” of Brazil. Through her political actions, she was invited to participate in the Lula government in the role of FUNAI advisor, but she declined the invitation because she believed that alongside her relatives she would more vehemently defend the rights of indigenous peoples. Furthermore, she was nominated for the “1000 women for the Nobel Peace Prize” in 2005. In this way, this research dialogues with decolonial history and the field of women's history through authors such as Smith (2018), Quijano ( 2019), Mignolo (2007), Lugones (2014), Scott (1992), Sampaio (2021), Ramos (2019). In order to understand the actions of Maninha Xukuru Kariri within the movement as an indigenous woman in a period when few reached the position of political leadership in indigenous organizations.
