DIÁRIO OFICIAL DE ALAGOAS AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CORPORATE-MILITARY COUP: THE DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY AS A COUP STRATEGY
The coup of 1964 in Alagoas; Liberal and Conservative Social and Political Movements; Luiz Cavalcante Government.
The present work aims to investigate and contextualize the business-military coup of 1964 in Alagoas, starting from the relationship of Luiz Cavalcante's government (1961 - 1965) with business sectors - more precisely the Instituto de Pesquisa e Estudos Sociais (IPES) and the Instituto Brasileiro de Ação Democrática (IBAD). From the analysis of the official state media, the government newspaper Diário Oficial do Estado de Alagoas, we intend to understand how conservative and liberal social and political movements inserted themselves in the state to act in the construction of the 1964 coup. The research was carried out from the beginning of governor Luiz Cavalcante's term (January 31, 1961) to the commemoration of one year of the coup (April 1, 1965). We also aim to bring to light the relationship between the Alagoas government and agencies of the United States of America, in the context of the military corporate coup of 1964.
